Calling All the Messengers

Hi folks-

I want to share a song with you this week that is a bit of an oldie. It was definitely a moving and powerful song for me back in my college days. Back then I took a hiatus from music that wasn’t specifically Christian in its content; which was huge for me because I loved my rock and roll. This was difficult for me- but during this time I was truly ministered to by this song. It just so happens that this song is connected with the passage we studied this week. As you listen to the song- consider what it’s trying to say to you and how God calls the early disciples… and us.

Song Lyrics:

For the Sake of the Call: by Steven Curtis Chapman

We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call

Wholly devoted to live and to die for the sake of the call

Nobody stood and applauded them
So they knew from the start
This road would not lead to fame
All they really knew for sure
Was Jesus had called to them
He said “come follow Me” and they came

With reckless abandon, they came

Empty nets lying there at the water’s edge
Told a story that few could believe
And none could explain
How some crazy fisherman agreed to go where Jesus went
With no thought to what they would gain
For Jesus had called them by name

And they answered

We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die for the sake of the call

The sake of the call

Drawn like the rivers are drawn to the sea
There’s no turning back, for the water cannot help but flow
Once we hear the Savior’s call, we’ll follow wherever He leads
Because of the love He has shown
And because He has called us to go

We will answer

We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call

Wholly devoted to live and to die

Not for the sake of a creed or a cause
Not for a dream or a promise
Simply because it is Jesus who called

And if we believe we’ll obey

We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call
We will abandon it all for the sake of the call
No other reason at all but the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die for the sake of the call

For the sake of the call

A World Shattering Truth

Hi folks-

I want to give you a simple question for this week’s 2nd look:

What does it mean to me that God’s kingdom is near and I am part of it?

Take some time this week to pray and consider this question. This is something Jesus urged us to be aware of; and to re-order our lives with. What does the kingdom of God mean to us? I pray God might speak to your heart this week as you consider this question. May God’s kingdom come and His will be done in us this week!

What Jesus Was Tempted By

Hi folks! Welcome to the 2nd look for this week. I’d like to invite you to take some time to read Matthew 4:1-11 this week. This passage is a more in depth look at the showdown in the desert between Satan and the forces of evil and chaos and Jesus and the kingdom of God. From this point- Jesus will speak and move with unmatched authority. Take some time to look at and think about the temptation story. Each of these temptations are very common to us all.

Have a great week everybody
and may God’s peace be with you!

A Call to Protect

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s second look.

For this week I invite you to read the story of Joseph in Luke 2:1-20 and Matthew 2:1-12. Read it several times this week. Close your eyes and picture the scene in your mind, or even try to put yourself in the shepherd’s and the Magi’s shoes. What thoughts, emotions do you feel in this passage? What things to do notice or observe? On Sunday we will get into this story and my hope is for you to spend some time with it this week!

We are in the home stretch- Christmas is this upcoming Sunday! May God bless you and your loved ones in this final week! Merry Christmas!!!!

Pastor Ryan

Worship is Forever

2nd Look- 11.28.16

Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s second look.

For these next few weeks I will be shifting gears a little bit and doing more specifically Advent themed second looks.

For this week I’d like to invite you to read the story of Zechariah in Luke 5:1-25. Maybe try to read it several times this week. Try to close your eyes and picture the scene in your mind, or even try to put yourself in Zechariah’s shoes. What thoughts, emotions do you feel in this passage? What things do you notice or observe? On Sunday we will get into this story and my hope is for you to spend some time with it this week!

Also if you want more information about Advent; here’s a link that helps explain it.

http://www.christianity.com/christian-life/christmas/what-is-advent.html

The article explains that Advent is intended to be a time of fasting and this fasting aligns us with being expectant and even mourning over the state of our world- waiting for the return of our Savior. Have you ever fasted?

Fasted is the intentional giving up of something in order to turn towards prayer. What I’ve done during the advent season is to fast something and every time I desire that thing I’m fasting, I turn towards God in prayer remembering that we are in a season of waiting. Perhaps you might consider fasting something.

Anyway, let’s have a wonderful week and enjoy this season of looking forward to that time when we will see our Savior face to face; and also look forward to that time where we can celebrate his birth!

Have a great week!

Pastor Ryan

Hinderances to Worship

2nd Look

Nov. 21, 2016

Hello Everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

This week I’d like to invite you to consider this verse:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.

Hebrews 12:1

DeRon spoke on Sunday about the things that hinder us in our journey of worship. I have to say I absolutely loved the direction he went with this sermon. The 5 hindrances he talked about are so true and very profound. If you didn’t get a chance to hear the sermon- please feel free to go on our website. You will find his sermon loaded there.

One thing DeRon focused on was our need to have an attitude of gratitude. As I listened to him I thought of this Hebrews verse and how we need to strip off the things that so easily hinder us and way us down. My invitation to you this week- is to not let anything hinder you in being grateful. Take time each day to consider what you have to be grateful for!

Have a wonderful holiday everyone. You are loved by our Heavenly Father; and by me. See you Sunday!

Tithing As Worship

2nd Look 11.15.16

Hi folks,

Welcome to this week’s second look.

For this week I’d simply like to invite you to take time each day to read and reflect on 2 Corinthians 9:1-15. As the week progresses what seems to emerge to you from this passage? This passage has been a great comfort and encouragement to me this past week as I was preparing for Sunday’s sermon. I truly hope it will encourage you as well.

Have a great week everyone and may the peace of God be upon you all!

Pastor Ryan
